join the CPO family and be a volunteer

You can volunteer at your convenience at any time. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinators in advance so that we can coordinate with the lead volunteer on duty that day. Volunteers can donate their time on a one-time bases or on a regular schedule and the day can be based on a week or month timeframe.

Below are descriptions of the type of volunteers needed during CPO operating hours, Monday through Saturday 10:00 am through 1:00 pm. All volunteers are asked to arrive 30 minutes before the 10:00 am opening when we start to process clients.

clothingVolunteers working in the clothing area assist clients choose infant/toddler and maternity clothing.

Work: light, mostly standing

 

 

 

 

foodThere are a number of tasks in the food sorting and repacking area.  You may be stocking shelves, packing boxes, sorting vegetables, or using one of our carts to take groceries out to a client.

Work: light to medium. The work assignments are always adjusted to the volunteer's wishes.

 

 

 

greeterOne person working as a Greeter is needed each day to help the clients as they enter the CPO facility for assistance. The Greeter collects the client's referral (from a social service agency or church) for the Interviewer and then gives the client a number so that the clients can be processed on a first-come first serve like sequence.

Work: light, desk work
Requires: good people skills
Spanish language skills are a plus, but not necessary

 

 

interviewerThis position requires the volunteer to interview clients for eligibility before any food, clothing, etc is distributed. The volunteer must be comfortable dealing with people and be sensitive to their challenges and needs. Computer skills are necessary for data entry and record keeping.

Work: light, desk work
Requirements: good people skills, computer skills
Spanish language skills are a plus, but not necessary

 

 

warehouseVolunteers working in the warehouse are responsible for receiving and storage of canned, boxed and refrigerated food prior to the distribution to clients.

Work: varies from medium to sometimes strenuous.

Use of a fork lift and driving the CPO truck at times are required. Authorization to operating either vehicle is limited and only granted by the CPO Director.
